The Best Pavers for Driveways (and What to Avoid)

A driveway takes more abuse than any surface on your property — vehicle weight, oil, sun and tire turning. Here's how to choose pavers that hold up and still wow the neighbors.

Go thick enough

For driveways, use pavers rated for vehicular use — typically 60mm (2⅜") or thicker, on a deeper compacted base. This is the single most important spec for a driveway that won't rut or sink.

Pick the right pattern

Herringbone (especially 90°) interlocks the pavers so they distribute vehicle loads and resist shifting — it's the gold standard for driveways. Running bond and basketweave work too but are slightly less load-stable.

Choose forgiving colors

Blended, multi-tone colors hide tire marks, leaf stains and the occasional oil drip far better than a single solid light color. Charcoals, browns and warm blends are popular, practical driveway choices.

See it on your driveway

The best way to choose is to see it in place. Upload a photo of your driveway for a free visualization, or book a free on-site AR preview.
